What are some societal effects of alcoholism?

use spellcheckWell alcoholics can loose their job, loose their home and loose practically everything else (their family etc.) So a long time alcoholic could be in this situation: Doesn't earn any money (therefore he gets money from the state) Doesn't have a place to live (he'll be floating around in the streets) Is probably rejected by his family (So there's no way out of it)Millions of people all across the country have jobs. Liqueur stores, bars, night clubs, truck drivers, bottling and canning factories, glass makers, paper manufacturers for labels, paint and dye companies, brewerys, farmers, tractor companies, grape pickers, advertising, auto industry, tire industry, construction industry, billboards, magazines that would go out of business were it not for alcohol ads, novelty item distribute rs, warehouses, fork lift manufacturers, the computer industry, recovery centers, doctors, nurses, counselors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and on and on and on. Alcoholism supports America. Three cheers for the Alcoholic! 10% of drinkers (The alcoholics) buy 90% of the alcohol! Without them our economy would be in the toilet! good job guys!I'm an alcoholic. Now that I am clean 4 years I have a unique view, but very different than others. I hate what alcohol does to people and how they act on it. I'm embarrassed that I used to be like that, but I have forgiven myself. I don't want to ever be around alcohol but its everywhere. I believe it is every bit as destructive as any drug and it should not be legal. I have seen the pain that it causes on so many levels as well as the dangers it poses. It is a menace to society but people are blind to its power. They deny the dangers of it because they just take it one drink at a time and think its OK. that one drink leads many people down a path of destruction and they get accused of crimes that should be blamed on alcohol. Some people are slaves to its power. If I chose to relapse and take one drink today, it would lead to 15-20 more drinks and behaviors that I couldn't predict and I might end up dead or in jail. I realize many of you think alcohol is harmless. well for some it is, but the price society pays is losing good people to its addictive powers. It leads to gregariousness in the right environment. In the wrong environment or with excess it leads to disrespect, poverty, unwanted pregnancies, a dull mind and a rotten liver.- you can become more isolated from friends and family and probably lose relationships – may lead to divorce – you become addicted to alcohol, therefore you always need it. this would mean you will put booze over other important things in life. you would be more likely to miss your kids piano lesson, or miss that important meeting. cant buy new shoes because you spent it on vodka, etc. – you may miss time from work, and potentially lose your job – losing your job may mean you will end up cutting back on your bills: you'll have less money for food, clothes, shelter and electricity – your credit will mostlikely suffer. you'll max credit cards to survive and wont be able to make payments ontime or at all. – you will rely on others close to you to survive, they will eventually avoid you altogether, and by this time, you probably have made a name for yourself as a drunk – when you are sober, you deal with your depression from the situation you are in , whatever that may be. – you would also deal with the anxiety you have from those around you leaving.. you will probably be alone – if your addiction gets beyond your control, you will live with the emotional side effects like the ones above, but others as well. you may have resorted to drinking and driving – putting others lives at risk too – the physical effects come into play too. your body will start to depend on your alcoholism forcing you to go with extreme withdrawls and often overdoses … taking up much needed space at ER's. – finally.. theres a good chance that if your alcoholism has reached a low , suicide is a possibility hope this helped.
